[Class is boring, but at least club is fun. He should naturally pick more characters besides Thief builds, but infiltration is good practice, right? Today he's picked a birdtail thief... nobody else seemed to be coming in, so it'd be yet another brutal challenge trying to survive Ryou's vicious DM onslaught.]

Ehh, Thief again, Akira-kun? [Ryou teases him with a smile, his laptop propped open in front of him.]

I like being able to avoid traps.

[Far from the real reason and far from the only reason, but he likes to offer stupid little reasons like that each time he's teased.]

Thinking up a whole one-shot on the spot's kind of difficult... He has some ideas, but none of them are fleshed out enough for a whole session. He hasn't even made any custom pieces for them yet.

[Duel Monsters..... it's not like he has a secret deck and secret identity for the explicit purpose of luring people into card games in order to change their hearts... nope.......]

I'm kind of new at it. I've only got a starter deck and a few packs I haven't opened yet.

[Ryou lights up, turning around to reach into his bag and take out two deck boxes.]

Sure. I'm in your hands. Help me make a deck as ruthless as your DMing.

[He pulled out his starter deck and five unopened packs, peeling them open to see what he happened to pick up from the store.]

Hehe, you can't just copy my deck.

[How's that for a humble brag?]

I'll have to see what you have first.

[Ryou starts with Akira's starter deck, giving it a quick once over.]

[It's one of the newer starter decks, so it's better suited for the current meta... hard to say if it was intentional or not. He sorts out his cards based on type as he pulls them, reading each card.]

I read the rulebook, but that's about it.

[Meanwhile, Ryou sorts through the starter deck, sorting it into 3 piles.]

Oh...well, let's pick a theme first. What kind of deck do you want? You can go for a certain archetype, or just a method of attack.

[He smiles, gesturing a bit as he speaks.]

Some players focus on dominating the board, or emptying their opponent's decks. There's more ways to beating your opponents than just depleting their Life Points!

"Milling", right? Maybe one of those.

[As "Joker", he preferred monster control or stuff like that... taking the opponent's strength away from them, or otherwise "infiltrating" to chip away direct Life Point damage. A mill deck would be a new approach.]

I saw Seto Kaiba on TV go against a milling deck.

Oh yeah? He's kind of scary, but he's a good duelist... [Ryou's smile is genuine despite the backhanded compliment.]

Let's see if you have any cards that will work in that sort of deck... We need effects that makes your opponent draw or discard cards.
