[Maya giggled excitedly, clinging as Peter lifted her. It was so cute how her weight with the baby was still nothing at all to him - he picked her up so often he even knew how to carry her in the most comfortable way.
Happily, she tilted up Peter's straw hat so she could kiss him back, purring up a storm.]
Vale is here! As is his Darling and their daughter. And a few other grandkids of mine, and their children. This reunion is going to be so big this year - it used to just be four of us!
[He almost winces to include himself in the 'us' but it's easier. And she's such a happy purring bundle of kisses that he can't help but bask in the inclusion for just a moment.
Eventually once they get up to the door he shifts a little to open it without setting her down on the ground just yet. That is reserved for when they're inside and he's fairly sure the gathering within will want to crowd around her.]
[The inside of the building is hot, and that's no surprise - the kitchen has two purrfolk cooking in it, filling the house with steam and smoke and amazing smells as veggies were being roasted and meats were being stewed. Vale was inside, and had to crouch - not too much taller than Peter, he was also struggling with the building's low roof.]
"There you are! We thought we heard you coming. Come, come, shadow and Maya, the bonfire has started."
Hello, Vale! And Marny, and Onna!
[The two ladies at the stove wave, giggling a bit at the sight of Peter holding Maya so close.]
"Look at you two, all cozy - guess we worried over nothing!"
[It was 'Marny' that said that - she was a more portly purrfolk, with a tail like Maya's but long, pointed ears.]
"Go, go sit, it's almost time for stories! You weren't late!"
[He might have to bend a bit to get in but it doesn't seem to annoy him. Peter had fully expected Maya to go bounding off the moment he sat her down and for much of the family to just overlook him after that. He was after all a shadow -- he was fine with that.
Vale addresses him though. For a moment he looks mildly surprised and then turns his gaze to Onna and Marny.]
You're sure? I'm not much of a cook but I can help carry anything if you need it.
[Ah, wait. He looks back to Maya.]
The bonfire is definitely warm but I can get you a shawl or quilt or anything if you're cold?
[The ladies both laugh, amused at the string bean in front of them hunched over and looming - he was a frightful sight entirely unintentionally, wasn't he? Seems like unlike most strangers, Maya's family all seem to have her jovial fearlessness.]
"You're a new addition! You've got a lot of stories to catch up on!"
I'll ask for something if I find I need it, my shadow. You're sweet to offer help, though.

[He always fusses.]
